Also, the prose is good, tense and intense, the original use of question marks at the end of sentences which are not questions underscores the musicality of the spoken english, it makes you feel as if you would actually hear the dialogue;.

Like all good 'detectives' she's a wonderfully flawed individual. It would seem nobody with a 'nice' background and a happy family life could ever be any good at solving crimes.
Cat's father is 'complicated' and she's pretty much sure he's a 'wrong'un' even suspecting him of being involved in the disappearance of Maryanne Doyle, a 17 year-old who went missing when the Kinsellas were visiting family in Ireland when Cat was just 8 years old.
Then to make life extra complicated, a woman is killed, her body dumped in a pleasant square in central London - rather too close to the pub that Cat's dad now runs.
Her big challenge is to decide whether family or the job comes first - and when you don't much like your relatives, that's an extra tough decision to make.
I've been rather bored by so-called best sellers and classic 'book club choices' this one comes with a Richard and Judy endorsement and have been disappointed by over-hyped mysteries like Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train but I wasn't at all disappointed by Sweet Little Lies.
The plot knits together well, all loose ends are neatly tied at the end and pretty much every character has secrets and nobody is quite who they seem to be.
Cat herself is immensely likeable - flawed, of course, but not fatally so. She's smart, funny, plain hoorah for a heroine who doesn't have to look like a supermodel and STILL gets the cute guy - not a spoiler if you don't know which one and above all conflicted about her job and her background.
I don't know if this is a one-off or if there are more books to follow but I'd read Caz Frear again. Sweet Little Lies is shocking without being sensationalist, detailed without being gory, and it's full of surprises.
Ti ringraziamo per la tua valutazione. Ti preghiamo di riprovare. Traduci recensione in Italiano. I bought this book solely on the recommendation of Richard and Judy!
I did this once before and as a result, Linwood Barclay became one of my favourite authors! This time I haven't been disappointed either!
Like they said,it's hard to believe that this is a debut novel. I found the characters very believable, and I found myself feeling sympathy for them although I knew I shouldn't.
I found myself changing my mind about almost everyone throughout the book and every time I thought I'd worked it out,it all changed!
Be warned, these twists continue almost until the end of the book. The only bits I didn't really see the relevance of were the therapy sessions, and Cat's brother!
I will be looking out for this author in the future, and it will be interesting to see if Cat will be able to make another appearance, given that this is very much her own story.
So slow and dull. Halfway through and the plot has progressed very little. Main character was quite interesting to start with but quickly became Mrs rather tiresome and repetitive Have decided to bail out because life is too short and don't really care about what happens.
Ridiculously over-hyped. Don't bother trying it is my advice. I was expecting great things having read all the reviews here.
I enjoy books of similar genres so thought it would be great to read while away over Christmas. Sadly I felt a complete anti- climx a few chapters in and as this was my only book, I kept plodding through but it never grabbed me.
A good book should feel like a special treat waiting for you to get right back to, this never did.
To me it just plodded along rather boringly. The premise as described on the back of the book sounds exciting, but the reality of the story as we learn at the end felt completely unexciting, unrealistic, over the top, unplausible and frankly a bit ridiculous.
There are a lot of very unlikeable characters and some you just dont care about. I also felt it very hard from the authors description to get an accurate feel for any setting- were the family all Irish or just holidayed in Ireland?
I never saw much evidence of her wild humour and the fact she risks her cherished career by sleeping with someone she shouldn't is very unrealistic, as is the fact someone so average and insecure could bag this hot hunk and then even be non-committal when he is trying to move things along?
Just odd and unnecessary. Sorry to say I read a LOT and love to get excited by a book, but this fell flat and I am bewildered at the hype for it.
Even though they can be read as standalones, the second book makes more sense after reading this one.
I love crime thrillers, and this author has definitely shuffled herself straight into my top 5. I was hooked from the first sentence and struggled to put my kindle down.
I feel I know the characters personally and the setting of London itself quite intimately. The characters were a mix match bunch of personalities; each one having their own enjoyable, and at times, relatable, quirks.
I still find that Cat Kinsella herself is rather depressed as that how she comes across, but now I know more of her background, I can understand for clearly.
Again, Luigi is my favourite character, as he is in book two too. Not just for her incredibly beautiful writing style but her explosive storylines and vigorous descriptive details but because of ALL of these mixed in together with likeable and unlikeable characters.
Where is Leo? Carica altre recensioni internazionali. I think, based on this book, I rather like a police procedural crime thriller.
Lu seeing a police psychologist because she has found herself in a previous case almost at breaking point because of being "over empathic" finds herself in an almost impossible situation when a murder victim is found close to her father's pub and is convinced this murder has echoes to a disappearance her family were close to years earlier in Ireland.
The victim Maryanne Doyle is known to her family and she knows her father has told lies. Increasingly haunted and torn between truth, duty and justice and family love despite her teenage fear of what he may have done blighting her present day conflicting feelings and relationship with her dad.
I The professional relationships between herself and her colleagues particularly herself and Parnell are well drawn, the characterisation is good and the writing is excellent.
For example, 43 percent in we read this: "Dead infants, dead leads, deadbeat barmen in dead end pubs.
Dead in my feet, I was home ". Doesn't that sum up the lot of detectives and police in everything they do to gather clues and painstakingly build a case.
Lu got under my skin and I really was gripped by the book. When I started this book I really enjoyed it.
Really brilliant debut that fully deserved to win the Richard and Judy competition. A warm, funny, compelling narrator, and a plot that genuinely keeps you guessing - I didn't see the ending coming even though I was looking for it.
I finished this in a couple of days despite having a teething, crawling one-year-old to chase after, which is saying something!
Frear is a huge talent and I hope - in fact, I'm sure - we'll see much more from her very soon. I compulsively read this book in two days, much to the annoyance of my kids!!!
It's a strong story, held together, by the authors amazing writing ability. It's based around a murder and the resulting police investigation that ensues but it also has some great one liners that actually gave me a few belly laugh out loud moments.Sweet Little Lies is a great read—tremendously compelling, full of were Andreas Kiendl opinion twists and turns that keep you guessing, even though I had a few suspicions that proved warranted. Caz Frear grew up in Coventry, England, and spent her teenage years dreaming of moving to London and writing a novel. Is Caz Frear writing another? I did like this book, even if some elements were a little harder for me to enjoy, and it was well-written. Her silence may cost her, her Stream Jungelbuch. Want to Read saving….
