The idea for this blog came to me after I became a mom in April 2020. It was the height of the pandemic, and the world was shutting down. I wondered what kind of world I had brought my daughter into, and what the future would bring for her. I was keenly aware of how much I wanted to protect her but also help her see all the good in the world, that things weren't as scary as they may seem. She was a blank canvas, and I was the painter, poised with my paintbrush and a whole spectrum of colors to create her world. Every touch, every word, literally every interaction with her mattered and affected who she would become.
With each new experience I saw through my daughter's eyes, I reflected on my own childhood and growing years. I remember going through my teens, 20s, 30s and 40s making countless mistakes and learning life lessons that I wished I had learned much earlier.
Now in my 50s, I am grateful for those mistakes which led to my own evolvement and maturity. But I know I still have a lot more to learn!
My hope is that this blog will help empower women at any age. I want "Growing Better" to be a platform for women to fearlessly share their flubs and flaws and what they learned from them. I'm eager to share my stories but learn from others' stories as well.
At the very least, this blog will serve as a reference guide for my daughter to use throughout her life. And if it helps enlighten even one other young woman along her journey, then that would be an incredible dream come true.
“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.”
